CLUETRAIN @ COMMUNICATE.COM
00-3-15
Kudos to my former employer for their strategy in developing makeup.com and perfume.com (just over a week old, these little sites). Seems like they were listening to what I always said and have weblogs on both sites, as well as links to many of their (soon-to-be) competitors on their "Our Favorite Sites" pages. (Now, if they'd just put the date on the blogs and keep the archives...) It's coming together well. You go girls!
BEWILDERMENT ON TUESDAY
00-3-14
So, every once in a while, I'll search for my own name (you do it too, damnit). As a usenet junkie circa 92-93, it's not like I never searched on Dejanews before (once or twice per year I remember to do it, in hopes that those years will someday be added).
So I was pretty surprised to find the exact string of characters which constitutes my name ("Stewart Butterfield") in what is quite possibly
the most random list of words ever created. It was posted to news.admin.net-abuse on August 5th 1996. My name occurs about 3/4 of the way through. (You'll probably have to use your browser's "Find in page" command if you don't believe me.)
I cannot image any reason why this list of words would have been created, and why my name would be in it (along with "downplay innermost incomprehension cantaloupe Duquesne snap Diego von bloodbath alienate scarface finale Barrymore creek"). I really can't. Inexplicable. This could be the most bizarre thing I've seen in the year 2000.
p.s Look! It's a link! Right in the content area of the page!
