Hi everyone.
When we started this contest, I had no idea the meme would spread as far and as fast as it did. It got press coverage (which I never really imagined in the first place) literally all over the world: Russia, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland ... It got into newsletters and weblogs and design sites that I'd never even heard of. As a result, entries came in from all over the world. From all kinds of people: little kids, senior software engineers, religious evangelists, application/OS/programming language/hardware evangelists, admirers, stay-at-home moms, professional designers, people learning HTML for the first time, people from countries where US$50 is not an insubstantial amount of money, self-promoters, humble artists, freaks. As I write this, with half an hour to go before the contest closes, there have been over 1000 entries. That is really a lot. (I figured on about 50 or maybe 100.) 1000 is far too many to judge. But there has been a lot of great work by people all over the world put into the entries and I want to recognize that. While many of them are easy to dismiss (because they are so astoundingly bad), most are not: there have been many very, very good entries and it is hard to find ones to exclude. Or to choose between, for example, the five DHTML recreations of Space Invaders or the four versions of Simon, or the six 3d Maze games, etc. (lots of incredible javascript, btw.) I am blown away by the outpouring of creativity and I want everyone to be able to see it. But it is going to take a while to respond to all the entrants, sort through the entries, review them, get them into the database, check their size, have them judged, etc. While this is going on, we'll make every effort to get some entries available for people to view. It's just going to take a little longer than I originally expected. Thank you to everyone for the tremendous enthusiasm and support. And thanks to everyone who entered. Good luck. Best, Stewart p.s. To anyone who entered and doesn't get their entry posted here or make it into the judging round: I'm sorry and I hope you understand. |
